Popbar’s myPops

In the mood for something sweet, but tired of the three (dozen) frozen yogurt shops in your neighborhood? Head down to the West Village and check out Popbar for a twist on a classic dessert that will leave your sweet tooth satisfied.

Popbar features a variety of gelato, but you won’t find cups and cones here—their gelato is served on a stick (hence the name Popbar). They offer classic staples like chocolate and vanilla, of course, but you’ll also find more adventurous flavors like banana, coconut, gianduia (a blend of hazelnut and chocolate) and a variety of sorbets.

But they don’t stop there. The best part about Popbar is that you’re able to customize your gelato bar with a variety of dipping chocolates and toppings like hazelnuts, almonds or chocolate sprinkles. I ultimately decided on the peanut butter gelato dipped in dark chocolate and topped with hazelnuts, but the combinations are endless—and completely delicious.

Popbar isn’t cheap, however—I paid $10 for two—but it’s worth the splurge, at least once in awhile. Consider taking it with you, too—the shop isn’t large and the only seating they offer is a counter with several stools.
