Call me crazy, but Serendipity 3 has been on my NYC bucket list for a long time. And I’m not the only one—fully every time I’ve stopped there, there’s been a line of people halfway down the block waiting to get in. Insane, right?
Maybe not. Once I finally got the opportunity to go, I found Serendipity 3 to be charming and delicious, even if it wasn’t everything I dreamed it would be.
Located on the Upper East Side, Serendipity 3 is a small cafe that offers a variety of food and a dessert menu that will make your head spin. It’s quirky and cozy on the inside, and while it might seem perfect for a date, keep in mind that it’s a popular place and can get quite noisy—which isn’t ideal for intimate conversation.
Serendipity’s menu is huge, but I’ll save you the trouble of figuring out what to order: get their famous frozen hot chocolate. It’s rich, satisfying and definitely big enough to share. Other solid choices: the frozen mint hot chocolate and the Strawberry Fields sundae.
Since Serendipity 3 is so well-known, the wait is usually upwards of an hour and a half. Either plan time to wait or make a reservation (I did the latter and was seated right away). Also, they require a minimum charge of $8.95 per person, so even though their desserts are sized for two, plan on ordering your own and taking your leftovers to go.
